Musicologist, Professor and DSc specialising in twentieth- and twenty-first-century music.
Milena Bozhikova is a musicologist and scholar of contemporary music with a long institutional association with the Institute for Art Studies of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The Institute states that since 1992 she has successively worked there as assistant professor, associate professor and professor. Her research spans twentieth- and twenty-first-century music, music theory and history, theoretical systems, compositional techniques, Schenkerian analysis and cultural interaction. Her training includes musicology at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory with Yury Kholopov. There is a verified discrepancy concerning the year of her PhD: the Institute profile gives 1990, while a later Sultan Qaboos University CV gives 1991; this dataset therefore does not silently normalise the date. Her DSc/State Doctorate is consistently given as 2010. Her books include 'Vassil Kazandjiev', '20th century music as late style', 'Scholia of the musicologist' and 'Wolfgang Rihm and the Spiritual Hypostasis in Music'; she also edited 'Music between Ontology and Ideology' (2020). EuroMAC11 in 2026 lists her with Sultan Qaboos University, while ESMUC includes her on the national BSMT Reading Panel.
